This policyholder, with 3 UK-based sites and 100 employees, was first introduced to Arch Risk Management Plus by their broker.
The broker had identified various areas where ARM Plus could deliver practical solutions and add value: |
- As the policyholder is multisite, there was a need for a unified approach to H&S.
- The outdated paper-based system was cumbersome to administer and needed updating to reflect the current state of the business.
- Branches within the business were not familiar with the current H&S arrangements.
- There was no established method to prove appropriate employee training was in place.
- ARM plus would be able to provide performance metrics for management.
- It presents a better risk to Arch at renewal and helps to promote continuity with them.
Meeting organised with Arch, ARM Plus, client and broker
To provide the client with an overview of how ARM Plus could benefit them, the broker organised a meeting – involving Arch, the ARM Plus engagement team, the client and themselves.

The initial meeting focused on how ARM Plus could digitise the business’s health & safety documentation, including risk assessments, checklists and policies, whilst also allowing the policyholder to manage the review process and create consistency and transparency of risk management across the business. Digitisation would beneficially impact the business not only in terms of efficiency and but also deliver cost savings through driving cost and friction out of the H&S process (anecdotally cost savings of £150 to £225 per employee) Read our insight for more on this.
Consistent framework to manage and drive H&S
As the Health & Safety Management system can be configured to reflect the structure of the business, the policyholder could now create a consistent framework to manage and drive H&S activity and, at the same time, start to generate performance metrics for each location with real-time data available to the management team.

To ensure that safety control measures identified in risk assessments are in place and operational, ABP enables the proactive monitoring of those safety controls through tasks assigned to the appropriate person in the business. These checks are a key performance metric – which you can read more about here.
Furthermore, as ARM Plus supports ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act, ’ any non-compliances with safety control measures can be identified and corrective action taken, which is then recorded in the system strengthening the business’s overall claims defensibility.
E Learning platform for targeted, business-wide training
As training requirements had been identified in the risk assessment process the E Learning platform was of great interest.
This would allow the policyholder to deploy consistent and relevant training across the business, efficiently targeting different employee groups through training plans.
ARM Plus E learning courses are comprised of 3 sections:
- Tutorial– interactive slide-based learning.
- Self-test – set by default to 75% pass rate.
- Checklist – each user completes a self-assessment checklist relative to their working environment, generating a risk rating for that individual. High risk ratings (a lead performance metric) can be identified and managed leaving an audit trail of corrective action which, if necessary, can be used to defend against claims.
The policyholder now had an effective means of delivering training business-wide that reflects the activities of the business and allows them to evidence training is in place and, additionally, any potential risks presented by employees can be identified early and rectified.
What unlimited remote support really means
A key differentiator of the ARM Plus proposition is the unlimited remote support available to all system users.
This means that what might seem daunting, i.e., digitising an outdated, paper-based H&S system and then rolling out a new system to multiple sites, is broken down into manageable stages through a bespoke implementation plan supported by the ARM Plusengagement team. This support may take the form of:
- Training webinars (delivered live or pre-recorded)
- Bespoke crib sheet guides
- Weekly/monthly review meetings
- Help desk support (password resets etc.)
- Bulk upload of employees
- Preparation of training plans and organisational groups
Putting the client’s needs first
Following the digitisation of the policyholder’s documents, a meeting was held with the client and broker to review what had been added to the system and to plan the roll out which will also include E Learning for all staff.
This meeting coincided with the release of the new HSM App (more info here), which has served to add further value to the ARM Plus proposition in terms of accessibility and efficiency.
ARM Plus has allowed enhancements to the policyholder’s current health & safety management processes; a few key ones are detailed below:
- Digitisation of the full suite of risk assessments to be supported by proactive monitoring and review tasks generating performance metrics with recorded corrective actions and audit trail.
- Enhancements to the annual Warehouse Audit, meaning they can now:
- Generate a percentage performance score for each audit/checklist completed.
- Move around the warehouse competing the audit through the new app/tablet device.
- Record photos and create immediate corrective actions with tasks and dues dates so the client does need to use multiple Word/excel forms to track actions.
- Track and confirm whether corrective actions arising from previous audits have been completed.

The next implementation stage will be to upload all employees to the system, so E Learning training can be rolled out to all staff.
Perfect example of Pursuing Better Together
As ARM Plus becomes further embedded in the business, it should prove a powerful retention tool when the policy is due for renewal.
The broker played an important role in identifying the client issues and then identifying how ARM Plus could solve them, leading to a more attractive risk profile, adding value and promoting a long-term relationship with Arch – a perfect example of Pursuing Better Together.
